Why do we need your personal data?

Personal data that Folkuniversitetet receives from you, guardians, authorities or that we otherwise collect is processed in order for us to meet and administer our legal obligations, such as fulfilling the requirements of governing authorities, complying with contractual obligations or in order for us to be able to provide you with good service. Personal data may also be used for statistical purposes and for the development and analysis of Folkuniversitetet’s business.

Data such as your name, address and email address are used in our client register to send you newsletters, course catalogues and offers about upcoming courses and programmes at Folkuniversitetet. Your name and address are also used to be able to answer your questions or comments via chat, email and web forms. Personal identity numbers are used for statistical purposes and are a condition for government grants for our courses in public education programmes. In some cases, we also both have legal requirements and contractual obligations to provide authorities with information, which sometimes includes personal data.

In cases where learning platforms are used, your personal data will be registered on the platform for you to be able to conduct your studies.

Folkuniversitetet sometimes provides third parties with information containing personal data, for instance in certain commissioned activities, while exercising official authority or performing tasks in the public interest. There is always a lawful ground for providing third parties with such information.

How is personal data collected and how is it stored?

Personal data is collected through for example, web forms, emails, applications on paper and phone calls. The data can also be supplemented by information from public registers and authorities.

If you are, or have been, a participant with us, your data is only retained for as long as is necessary for Folkuniversitetet to be able to administer courses/programmes or for as long as we are required to retain it by law or contractual obligation. After that, it is deleted in accordance with established procedures. We do not delete personal data when there is a legal requirement to retain it, for example in accordance with applicable accounting laws and regulations. We use de-identified information for statistical purposes and development of courses.
