Matilda took the Cambridge English: Advanced exam in 2011 and now works in Sweden. She tells us about how taking the exam has helped her:
Since taking the exam, I've first and foremost been able to use it in my work.
I work as a freelance writer and as a receptionist. As a receptionist, I meet and talk to many people from countries other than Sweden, so speaking English is often crucial. I've been able to use my Cambridge English certificate when applying for jobs as a receptionist, as it shows my employer that I am capable of speaking the language and can handle such situations that require it.
When it comes to my writing, I've done a lot of translating from Swedish to English. I translate newsletters (to which I also contribute my own texts) and longer pieces for web publishing. As with my work as a receptionist, the Cambridge English: Advanced certificate shows that I have the means to do a good job with translations.
The certificate is also a real boost of confidence, because I know my capabilities. For example, I've done journalistic pieces in English (I have a journalism education), which have run in an American podcast and also a magazine. And of course, it'll be great for future use, if I ever decide to work abroad full-time.
