Food Literacy A New Horizontal Theme in Adult Educationand Counselling

The main objective of the project is to establish "Food Literacy" as a horizontal theme in adult education and to consider it as a personal core competence.

Description:

The main objective of the project is to establish "Food Literacy" as a horizontal theme in adult education and to consider it as a personal core competence, such as "computer literacy" or "consumer literacy". It will

  • raise the awareness of multipliers in adult education to issues concerning food literacy and will develop materials that enables them, in the course of their teaching contents, incorporate aspects of nutrition competence and culinary culture
  • raise the awareness of institutions working with clients from socially and/or economically disadvantaged target groups who cannot be reached with conventional adult education offers. Counsellors and advisers will be enabled to empower these clients with food literacy in the course of their respective counselling activities
  • show how food or nutrition campaigns will have to be complemented with target group specific educational offers in order to lead to sustainable results

The main outputs will be "Guidelines for Introducing Food into Adult Education and Adult Counselling" and a "Tool Box" The collection materials and methods can be used for a wide variety of measures and interactions. Pan-European dissemination will be achieved through a Multiplier Seminar with participants from all other European countries not taking part in the project.
