Is your dream to become an actor? Welcome to an inspiring and creative course where you can study the fundamentals of acting and practice different techniques, intended for anyone with a passion for theatre, film and acting.
This is a course where you can study the fundamentals of acting and practice different techniques, and learn about an actor’s inner interpretation, stage presence, and how to act convincingly on stage. We mix theory and practice, and work with various exercises, improvisations and scripts to stimulate imagination and creativity.
Target group and prerequisites
The course is intended for anyone with a passion for theatre, film and acting. You may just want to see whether acting is something for you, or try it for your own personal development, or to build a strong foundation before applying to theatre schools, or because you would like to work in the film and theatre industry. It is an advantage to have some experience from a theatre or similar course, but it is not a requirement.
All tuition is conducted in English. We work as an ensemble and in smaller groups, during which theory is sandwiched with practical exercises. Later on in the semester, the course also includes elements of individual work.
- To learn vocal technique and various acting techniques.
- To develop your physical presence.
- To develop your mental presence.
- To work with your personal stage expression.
- To have fun with acting.
- To practice performing for auditions and facing an audience.
- Stage performance
At the start of term, we focus on bonding into a functional, secure group. We do simple exercises where we move on stage, communicate with each other, and work on presence. After that, we learn how the body and voice are capable of artistic expression. We practice improvisation – with and without scripts, and work with etudes (silent, individual improvisations). We learn about stage positions and space; where you should stand on the stage, how to relate physically to other actors as spectators as well as what this communicates to the audience. We work with the group as a base and as a “mirror” during our individual work. As the term progresses, we increase our focus on the inner workings and interpretation of actors as we explore what underlies a script and how to narrate it.
- Voice and expression
This part of the course is dedicated to specific exercises that develop and nurture the interaction between body and voice. The goal is to create personal tools that will connect technique with script interpretation.
- Physical theatre
This element involves working with fun-filled exercises and improvisations that stimulate imagination, spontaneity, concentration and presence. The aim is to develop the participant’s physical expression, awareness and security in scenic situations, both individually and in interaction with others.
In theatre work, it is advisable to wear clothes that are easy to move around in. We work as a group and are responsible for the group working together, in other words with a strong focus on everyone’s presence. We respect each other’s effort and time.
There is no lesson on February 24th, April 6th and April13th.
After Acting training, you can progress to our Acting – Showtime course, where the work is geared to production and to performing in front of an audience. Please talk to your course instructor if you are unsure of your level and how you should continue after this course. If you want to learn to sing, we provide courses to help you get started.
