ABOUT MICHAELJON

If the articulation of dance could be visually distilled into a language – Michaeljon Slinger would speak fluently…and that fluency is seen in his choreography work for stage and screen across the globe – most recently; Season 2 of Ryan Murphy’s docudrama Feud: Capote vs. The Swans, directed by Gus Van Sant (FX), Comic Relief (BBC), Disney 100: The Concert (Sydney Opera House), The Royal Flying Doctors Service (Channel 7, 7plus), with The Backstreet Boys on The Tonight Show starring Jimmy Fallon (NBC), and with Hello, Dolly! and Nice Work If You Can Get It (Shenandoah Summer Music Theatre).

As an Associate Choreographer, Michaeljon most recently reunited with Director/Choreographer Rob Ashford on the forthcoming musical motion picture The Deb (directed by Rebel Wilson) – and has continued his associate work alongside Lorin Latarro with the new Broadway musical The Heart of Rock and Roll (James Earl Jones Theatre).  Previous work with Latarro also includes the Broadway, West End and North American touring companies of Mrs. Doubtfire (directed by Jerry Zaks), Michael Mayer’s world premiere of Giuseppe Verdi’s nineteenth oeuvre, La Traviata, now a perennial favorite at The Metropolitan Opera in New York, Fiasco Theatre’s Merrily We Roll Along (Roundabout Theatre), the world premiere of Almost Famous(Old Globe Theatre) and a star-studded performance of Chess, a benefit concert in support of the Entertainment Community Fund (Broadhurst Theatre).

As a performer, Michaeljon made his Broadway debut in 2009 directed by Arthur Laurents in the revival of West Side Story (Dance Captain/Cast) and continued on Broadway in Billy Elliot, the original Broadway companies of; How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying, starring Daniel Radcliffe, Evita, starring Ricky Martin, Side Show, and Matilda.  A final bow to on-stage work came in 2017 as Dance Captain/Cast in the celebrated Broadway revival of Hello, Dolly! starring Bette Midler.  With a dance career spanning over ten years, he’s also appeared on the Academy Awards, the Tony Awards, the Kennedy Center Honors, the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade, Jack O’Brien’s staged concert production of Guys and Dolls, starring Nathan Lane, Patrick Wilson and Megan Mullally – and in the opening musical number of Seth MacFarlane’s feature film Ted 2.

BACKGROUND & TRAINING

Proudly hailing from Queensland Australia, Michaeljon first came to the United States after receiving an invitation to attend the Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis School at American Ballet Theatre on full scholarship.  Later, he joined the prestigious BFA dance program at The Juilliard School in New York.  He is distinguished among peers and fellow nationals as being the first Australian to ever be accepted into either institution.
