Who is this course for?
This course is for adults with basic English skills (A2 level) who want to work in construction in Sweden. It’s especially good for people who don’t have much formal education and want to improve their English for work.
What will you learn?
In this course, you will learn essential English vocabulary and grammar related to construction work and practise talking with colleagues and supervisors. You’ll learn how to give and follow instructions, talk about tools, equipment, safety, and work tasks, and ask for help or clarification. You’ll also practice discussing work schedules, reporting problems, and socialising with your team during breaks.
Course Content:
We will help you develop practical English related to construction work, including:
- Describing trades and work roles - plumber, bricklayer etc
- Tools and materials - vocabulary for tools and materials used across different trades hammer, cement, bricks etc
- Heavy equipment - forklift, cement mixer etc
- Safety language and instructions - safety equipment and common site warnings
- Giving and following instructions - phrases for giving and following directions, and setting up work areas.
- Weights, measurements and quantities - basic measurements and how to describe quantities.
- Understanding work schedules and routines - vocabulary for daily work schedules and order of work activities
- Communicating with colleagues and supervisors - making requests, reporting problems, working with others in your team and socialising during breaks.
Methods:
- Classes will focus on all language skills and will be taught in basic English.
- Please be willing to actively participate in class.
- You should expect some homework each week.
Course goals
By the end of the course, you should be able to communicate more confidently and effectively in common construction situations.
Certificate of Attendance:
Upon request, a course certificate can be provided to students who attend at least 75% of the classes.
Additional Information:
This course is entirely online. You can join from home with a computer, tablet, or mobile device with an internet connection and a camera. All participants and the instructor will be online together for each session.
Course Materials:
Textbooks are not included in the course fee and should be purchased separately. Additional study materials and suggestions for self-study will be provided by the teacher. Further information to follow.
