Grammar
- The alphabet (hiragana)
- Questions (yes-no questions, questions with question words)
- Conjugation of "desu" (present/affirmative, negative)
- Adjectives (present tense)
Objective
By the end of the course, participants should be able to handle very basic language situations in daily life, such as introducing themselves, ordering at a restaurant, talking about their hobbies, etc. They should also have developed a very basic knowledge of hiragana. <-
Upon completion of the course, participants will have completed the entire A1 Part 1 level.
Classroom activities include:
• Pair and group exercises
• Dialogue practice
• Use of videos
• Short text reading
• Writing mini-essays
• Simple translations
• Vocabulary building
Homework
Assigned as needed, e.g., tasks from the course packet
Lesson approach:
• Participants are expected to be active during the lessons
• The focus is on oral communication
Course Structure
The teaching is communication-based but covers all skills. The course includes pair and group exercises, listening comprehension activities with audio files and videos, and dialogue practice. Padlet is used as the learning platform for weekly content and supplementary online material. Participants are expected to actively use the language during lessons. Be prepared to spend extra time on homework.
Literature and Materials
Course literature is not included in the course fee. You will receive information in your course invitation on where to purchase the book. It is recommended to buy a book to fully benefit from the course. We use course literature that is in English/Japanese. The course book contains both transcribed text (roman letters) and Japanese characters. The course invitation will specify which book is used and where to purchase it. In addition to the course literature, the teacher's own materials are used.
Course Leader
Sue Sugizaki is a university-trained teacher of Japanese with a Japanese-Language Teaching Competency Test certification. She has taught at universities in Sweden, England, New Zealand, Uzbekistan, and Japan before moving to Sweden in 2005.
