Swedish for Medical Staff

These courses give you training and specialized vocabulary useful for work in the medical sector. You decide the pace of the course, but we recommend you to complete two sessions per week.

The courses are built around a digital study material called Svenska för sjukvårdspersonal, developed for our Internet-based platform. The material focuses on authentic dialogues from patient contact situations. It also includes a large number of illustrations and photos related to the medical field. There are no grammatical presentations or exercises in the material since they are covered in the distance courses in Swedish as a foreign language.

Each course consists of 15 lessons and approx. 500 new words related to medical professions. Each lesson contains reading and listening comprehensions, self-correcting vocabulary and dictation exercises, and written assignments. Most texts are in the form of dialogue. In the dictation exercises, you practise to write what you hear and how the different sounds of the language are spelled. There are several self-correcting exercises where you practise vocabulary. The written assignments are to be sent to your teacher for correction and comments.

The course also offers you a collection of links to Swedish websites, extra self-correcting exercises, an online Swedish-English dictionary with medical vocabulary as well as the possibility to discuss different topics with other course participan.
