Retoucher - Image Designer
The vocational education programme Retoucher - Image Designer at Fotoskolan STHLM has an international focus and provides you with sought-after skills in photo editing, retouching, and image creation for still and moving images. It also offers advanced expertise in the latest technology within imaging and photography. The program is free of charge, lasts for 2.5 years, and qualifies for student financial aid.

Programme Overview
In the vocational education programme for Retoucher - Image Designer, you will learn to manage image processing software, explore the future of photography, and understand its historical development and preservation using both new and classic techniques. This programme is ideal for those interested in photography, colour, and form, who enjoy problem-solving and can embrace advanced digital tools.
Visual Communication
You will enhance your understanding of visual communication and learn to work through a design process from concept to finished result, with a focus on final delivery. Fotoskolan STHLM offers the only programme in Europe exclusively focused on post-production of photographic and moving images.
Classical Retouching and Future Image Design
The programme starts with classical retouching, a profession over 100 years old, and then expands to future image design. Using digital tools, you will enhance images and realise clients' ideas, gaining in-depth knowledge of Photoshop.
Classroom Learning
During the first two years, you will be in a classroom with controlled lighting and technology adapted to industry standards. Your workstation includes a Mac, a calibrated Eizo ColorEdge monitor, and a professional Wacom drawing tablet.
Advanced Software Training
After gaining broad knowledge of still images and photography in the first year, you will learn to handle software for AI, animation, editing, colour grading of films, and 3D.
Work Placement and Final Project
In the second year, you will spend six months on a work placement at a company that suits your focus. Before graduation, you will present your work placement experience and exhibit your final project.
Course Structure
The courses are tailored to the skills needed to become a skilled retoucher or image designer, focusing on post-production and image creation. You will also learn about the profession through courses in entrepreneurship, colour management, colour & form, image communication, and photographic production.
