Report to the teacher
If you are registered to a course, go to your classroom and report to the teacher.

Cancelled classes
If a class needs to be cancelled, you will be notified by text message or email. The cancelled class is usually rescheduled for the week after the end of the normal term.

Come on time
The start time of the dance class is on the notification you receive, either by email or letter. We encourage all students to be changed and ready well in advance of the class start time.

Late arrival
Balettakademien does not allow late arrival. Late arrival disturbs the concentration of the students in the group who are already there and causes uncertainty in the students who arrive late, which leads to valuable lesson time being wasted. Please respect a closed door to the classroom.

Can I join a course that has already started?
For young people and adults, it is possible to start a course during the first three classes, subject to availability. After the third class, we do not accept new registrations for beginner courses. If you have some prior knowledge, you can join a course after the third class, subject to availability. Please contact our Customer Service or the office at Balettakademien.

It is possible to start courses for Children and Young People aged 3-12 during the first three classes, subject to availability. We do not accept new registrations after the third class in order not to disturb group development.

In cases of late registration, no deduction will be made on the course fee. Exceptions can be made upon submission of a valid medical certificate.

What is a “stage course”?
Courses marked “scen” end with three shows on Balettakademien’s Studio Fyra stage. Read more about our stage courses here.

Try-out days
January 12-14, we are offering free trial classes for children, teenagers, and adults.

Changing rooms
Changing rooms are located on the floor below the entrance floor. Small children who need help changing can change in the adult changing room with their parent or guardian. We also have a gender-neutral changing room on the second floor.

Please note! For everyone’s well-being, we kindly ask you not to change in the cafeteria or in the recreation rooms.

Valuables and lost property
Unfortunately, we cannot be held responsible for any valuables/personal property. There are lockers in the changing rooms where you can store your possessions safely (you will need to bring a padlock). We recommend that you take any valuables and other items that you do not wish to leave in the changing room into the dance studio with you. There are storage shelves in every dance studio.

We leave lost property – items of clothing, shoes, etc – in the baskets one floor down by the lift. Any lost valuables are stored in the office. Please ask in reception or at the office.

Remember that the teachers will not be able to take care of your child’s possessions. Word of advice! Make sure that you label your child’s possessions!

Course starts, course notifications and payment
When you register for a course, you will receive a confirmation of registration. Before the course starts, you will receive a course notification that specifies the course location and schedule. Thru our payment system Walley you choose how you want to pay your course.

Change of schedule, location or teacher
In the event that Balettakademien is forced to cancel a course before the first class, you are entitled to a full refund of the course fee. If the start of the course is postponed by more than a week, you are entitled to cancel your registration and receive a full refund. We reserve the right to change teacher or location if necessary. In the event of a complaint, the rules of the Consumer Services Act apply.

Accidents and eating disorders
Course participants are insured against accidents during classes and on their way to and from classes. We have a policy for eating disorders. In the event of underweight or doubts about the health of a participant, we will ask for a doctor’s certificate.

Changing course
As a rule, you may only change course during the first three weeks of a course. Please contact our Customer Service on 08-789 41 20 if you need to change course. You can also ask at the office and in reception. Feel free to ask your teacher which level is appropriate for you, but make sure to notify the office/reception of the change that you would like to make.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS ABOUT COURSES FOR CHILDREN AND YOUNG PEOPLE AGED 3-12

In what age group should I register my child?
Children are put in a group with other children of the same age. The age indications refer to the age of the children at the start of the course. For example, in order to participate in a group of three-year-olds, a child must have turned three when the course begins. To participate in a group of 4-5 year olds, the child must have turned four, and so on. Previous knowledge is the guideline. Teachers are responsible for moving the children to a more appropriate level if necessary.

Please note! Include the child’s personal details in the registration. Submit your own details under “Other Payer”.

Do children have to take a test to dance at Balettakademien?
No, the courses are open to all children from the age of three who think that dancing is fun. On the other hand, the BA Ballet School requires children to pass an entrance exam.

Can my child join a course that’s already started?
For children aged 3-12 years, it is possible to join a course during the first three classes, subject to availability. We don’t accept new registrations after the third class in order not to disturb group development.

How does re-enrolment work?
Children that have completed a course have a guaranteed place with the same teacher the following term. We publish the autumn courses on our website on 15th May and the spring courses on 15th November. In order to guarantee a place for your child, you must book on our website or by phone between 15-19th May for the autumn term and 15-19th November for the spring term. Ask your teacher if you’re not sure which group to choose. New children are placed by turn in groups where there are spots available.

What should I do if my child doesn’t want to continue the dance course?
For our youngest participants, we apply our registration rules regarding legally binding registration in a more flexible way. Small children have little concept of what it means to dance in a group, and the most important thing is that it should be fun to dance at Balettakademien! There could be different reasons why your child isn’t enjoying the course. Contact the teacher, our Customer Service or the Balettakademien office and we would be happy to try and find out what's wrong. If we can’t find a good solution together, you can cancel your registration during the first three weeks of the course. You will be charged for the completed classes and an administration fee.

Class time?
The roll call at the start of each class plays an important role in the bonding process and group feeling and is included in the class time. We attach great importance to ensuring that all the children feel seen and welcome in the group. Class time includes a short transition period that allows the next group to start on time.

Is my child the right level for the course I booked?
At the start of the course, the dance teacher is responsible for informing course participants and moving them to a more appropriate level if necessary. At the end of each course, the dance teacher will also recommend the level that they should choose for the next course. The teacher is responsible for moving participants to a more appropriate group if necessary.

Watching classes
The last dance class of the course is an open class. Your teacher will give you more information.

Filming/taking photos
Yes, kids are fantastic! But we prefer you not to film them or take photos during class. This is because not all children want to be or can be included in the photo or film clip. You can take photos of your child before and after class but be very cautious about posting images on social media that include other children.

Wait outside the dance studio or leave?
If a child is between 3-5 years old, we prefer that parents/guardians remain outside the dance studio during class.

Once a child is 6 years old and feels confident enough for a parent/guardian to leave them, there are other options such as Café Arte on the entrance floor.

Water bottles in the dance studio
Please check with your dance teacher whether water bottles are allowed in the studio or whether you should leave them outside.

Where can I park my pram or pushchair?
There are four “pram garages” in the courtyard in front of the entrance. Please respect that bringing prams or pushchairs into the building is not permitted for fire safety reasons. There is a baby changing table upstairs on the first basement floor.

Where are the emergency exits and evacuation plans?
There are two emergency exits at the back of the building and one from our large show studio at street level. The teachers are responsible for evacuating their groups in the event that evacuation is necessary. Information and evacuation plans are available on every floor.
