Are you an expat or foreign professional in Sweden? This online course is designed to help you understand the Swedish approach to occupational safety and health, with a focus on creating safe, healthy, and productive workplaces. You will learn about Swedish work environment laws, your rights and responsibilities, and practical strategies to promote well-being and prevent risks in your workplace.


Working in a new country can be challenging, especially when it comes to understanding workplace regulations and expectations. This course will give you the tools and confidence to navigate Sweden’s workplace safety culture, ensuring that you feel informed and empowered to contribute to and benefit from a safe and supportive work environment.


Course Modules

1) Basic Concepts and Swedish Work Environment Legislation

An introduction to key workplace acts and the main organizations overseeing occupational safety in Sweden.
A clear explanation of Swedish work environment legislation and what it means for you as a worker or employer.
Understanding the roles, rights, and responsibilities of employers, employees, and safety representatives.
Insights into Sweden’s Systematic Work Environment Management approach, focusing on physical, psychological, and social aspects of the workplace.


2) Risk Assessment and Preventive Measures

How to identify hazards and assess risks in your workplace, using practical tools and techniques.
Examples of common workplace risks in Sweden, from physical safety to ergonomic and social challenges.
Hands-on exercises and group discussions to practice risk assessment and mitigation strategies.
How to actively contribute to preventing workplace accidents and injuries as an employee or team member.

3) Promoting Health and Well-Being in the Workplace

Swedish workplace culture and the importance of fostering a healthy, collaborative environment.
Rehabilitation and adaptation: What to expect and how to support colleagues returning to work after illness or injury.
Stress management and conflict resolution: Tools to maintain your well-being and handle workplace challenges effectively.
Sharing experiences: Participants exchange ideas and create personalized action plans to enhance their workplace environment.

Target Audience
This course is tailored for english speakers with an interest in swedish work enivorment,  regardless if you are employee, manager, union representative or just have a general interest. You can be an employee, manager, or executive with or without formal personnel responsibilities.

Methodology
Theoretical presentations are combined with case work. This means that during the course, participants will work on real-life cases, discussing problem areas, and proposing solutions.

The course is held entirely online. To participate, you need access to a computer with a camera, microphone, and speakers, as well as an internet connection. No special programs are required. You participate in the course on the specified day and time. The course is held entirely in english. 

Prerequisites
No prerequisites are required, but it is advantageous if you have work experience that allows you to relate to the course content.

Course Certificate

Certificates are issued at the end of the training for participants who wish to receive them and have attended at least 75% of the time, provided that the entire course fee has been paid.

Cathrine Baumann

With over 30 years of experience in HR and recruitment, Cathrine Baumann is currently the HR Director for the Nordic region at an international biotechnology and pharmaceutical company.

She oversees staffing, organizational development, labor law, work environment, policy implementation, and change management, while also providing leadership support to managers. As a course instructor, Cathrine is deeply passionate about people and human interactions, combining theory with practical exercises. Her classroom is known for its curiosity, inclusivity, and warmth.
