Stepping into a leadership role in Sweden comes with unique opportunities and challenges, particularly when navigating the country’s well-structured labour laws and workplace culture. This course is designed specifically for managers new to the Swedish workplace, providing an introduction to the legal framework, leadership responsibilities, and practical guidance for fostering a fair and compliant work environment. You’ll gain insights into Swedish labour legislation, collective agreements, and workplace practices that define a successful leadership approach in Sweden.
Swedish workplaces emphasize collaboration, transparency, and equality. As a manager, understanding these values and the legal requirements that support them is crucial for building trust, ensuring compliance, and leading effectively. This course will prepare you to manage your team confidently while respecting Swedish labour laws and workplace culture.

Historical review
A brief introduction to how leadership has changed over time in Sweden
Leadership vs. management
Leadership and management are often used synonymously. During this module, we will discuss if there is a difference between them.
Swedish leadership style
During this module, we will discuss if there is such a thing as a Swedish leadership style and what characterizes the Swedish leadership style. We will also discuss the pros and cons of the Swedish leadership style.
11 common leadership styles (and how to find your own)
We introduce 11 different leadership styles, looking at their pros and cons in different situations. Your personality and experience influence your leadership style. While there’s no single right way to lead, by identifying your leadership style it can help you develop your skills and strengthen your team. A style can evolve, so the leader you are today may be different from the leader you would like to be.
How to create well-functioning, efficient teams and effective meetings
In this final module, we will work with practical exercises, to create better well-functioning, efficient teams, and review our meetings so they become even more meaningful and fulfill their purposes even better.

Expats or international managers adapting to Sweden’s unique labour laws and workplace practices.
HR professionals supporting managerial transitions in Sweden.
Objectives
By the end of this course, you will have a solid understanding of Swedish labour law and its application to leadership. You’ll be equipped with the knowledge and skills to manage your team effectively, ensure compliance, and embrace Sweden’s workplace values of collaboration, equality, and transparency.
Methodology
Theoretical presentations are combined with case work. This means that during the course, participants will work on real-life cases, discussing problem areas, and proposing solutions.
The course is held entirely online. To participate, you need access to a computer with a camera, microphone, and speakers, as well as an internet connection. No special programs are required. You participate in the course on the specified day and time. The course is held entirely in english.
Prerequisites
No prerequisites are required, but it is advantageous if you have work experience that allows you to relate to the course content.
Course Certificate
Certificates are issued at the end of the training for participants who wish to receive them and have attended at least 75% of the time, provided that the entire course fee has been paid.

Cathrine Baumann
With over 30 years of experience in HR and recruitment, Cathrine Baumann is currently the HR Director for the Nordic region at an international biotechnology and pharmaceutical company.
She oversees staffing, organizational development, labor law, work environment, policy implementation, and change management, while also providing leadership support to managers. As a course instructor, Cathrine is deeply passionate about people and human interactions, combining theory with practical exercises. Her classroom is known for its curiosity, inclusivity, and warmth.
