Are you concerned about the impact of climate change on people and nature in cities? Do you want to clarify what sustainable development means? Do you recognize the importance of plant and animal diversity in creating sustainable cities? Are you interested in exploring how nature-based solutions can contribute to ecological and human health in urban settings?

Participants will learn about theories underlying urban ecological and sustainability sciences, methods used for exploring urban biodiversity, ecological and social processes in cities, current research trends in this area of study, and challenges of implementing nature-based solutions for creating sustainable cities.

Content
We begin with an introduction, discussing the expectations for the course. The leader will engage with the participants to determine the most effective learning format based on their interests and expectations. Depending on their input, we will proceed with either the theoretical part, the practical part, or a combination of both in each session.

The theoretical part will provide insights into sustainability principles, urban biodiversity, the urbanization process, its impact on biodiversity, and human well-being. Topics will include but are not limited to biodiversity conservation in urban contexts, the climate-biodiversity-health nexus, complex systems, system resilience, and socio-ecological systems.

The practical part will involve project work in groups. This activity will provide participants with a hands-on learning experience, allowing them to critically analyze local environmental or social issues and develop innovative, nature-based solutions that align with sustainability principles.

Circle leader
The circle leader is a PhD candidate from Södertörn University, who is doing research in the area of urban ecology and environmental psychology.

Practical Information
The course is held online and in English. It consists of 4 sessions; each session will take place on Wednesdays from 5:30 PM to 8:15 PM for four weeks. The course is aimed at those of you who live in cities and are interested in urban development. No previous knowledge is needed.
